In view of rain, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has extended to December 14 the deadline for pet owners to microchip their dogs and obtain ownership rights.

As of now, 91,711 pet animals have been registered, and 45,916 licensed. Microchipping, administration of anti-rabies vaccine, and registration are required for ownership.

The microchip should contain the pet owner’s details, the civic body said in a press release. The service is available for free at six centres from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Pet owners must complete the process before the new deadline to avoid penalties, the GCC added.
