A large portion of the compound wall of a government school collapsed on Wednesday (December 3, 2025) night in Chengalpattu district due to heavy rains, causing panic among students and parents.
A senior police official from Chengalpattu district said that the government higher secondary school in Anjur village, located inside the Mahindra City township of Chengalpattu, has been functioning for more than 50 years, with about 300 children from surrounding villages studying there.
Due to the heavy rains that have been lashing the area for the past few days, a portion of the school’s compound wall collapsed. On Thursday (December 4) morning, when the students arrived, the collapsed wall caused panic.
Social activist D. Jaikumar said residents in the area had been requesting the Chengalpattu district administration for several years to take steps to renovate the dilapidated compound wall of the school, as it had been constructed without a pile foundation and had developed cracks. However, no steps were taken to renovate it, Mr. Jaikumar said.
