Kalaburagi students win Best Poster Award at IIT Bombay ceramics conference

Two students from P.D.A. College of Engineering, Kalaburagi, have won the Best Poster Award at an international conference held at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay).

Shekhar Rathod and Shashi Bhushan Sthawarmath, both fifth-semester students from the Department of Ceramic and Cement Technology, received the award at the International Conference on Research Advancement and Industrial Challenges in Glass and Ceramics 2025. The event was jointly organised by IIT Bombay and the Indian Ceramic Society.

Their award-winning poster, titled ‘Synthesis of Tin Cobalt Aluminum Doped Zinc Oxide Nano Powders by Solution Combustion Synthesis and their Photo Catalytic Applications’, presented their work on advanced nano-materials and their potential applications in photo-catalysis. The research was carried out under the guidance of Baburao N. Sherikar, Professor in the Ceramic and Cement Technology Department at P.D.A. College of Engineering.

The achievement drew appreciation from the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society leadership. HKES President Shashil G. Namoshi, Vice-President Raju Bhimalli, Secretaries Udaya Chincholi and Kailas Patil, members of the Governing Body, College Principal Siddarama Patil, Vice-Principals S. R. Hotti and Bharathi Harsur, and Head of the Department Veeresh P. Mallapur congratulated the students.

Faculty members Amaresh R, S. B. Patil, Pawan Rangdal, Gundu Kollur, Hansraj Sahu, Mallikarjuna Kumane, Sharanu Jagte and Yallalinga Parit also conveyed their wishes, and praised the students for bringing recognition to the department.

College authorities said the award reflects the growing research culture at P.D.A. College and the increasing participation of its students in national and international academic forums.
