The members of Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU) and Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee (AP JAC) have staged protests across Prakasam district highlighting their 10 demands. As a part of the ‘Bandh’, all the colleges remained close, and a rally was organised from Nellore bus stand to the collectorate in Ongole on Thursday.

Their demands include establishing Markapuram medical college in the public sector, allocation of funds for the district university and IIIT, construction of welfare hostels, government schools, and resolving the problems being faced by students from KG to PG. The student unions have been protesting by doing cycle yatra, dharna, and ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ programmes over various issues.

On the occasion, SFI Prakasam district leader Ch. Vinod said, “Despite discussions with the Education Minister, the problems faced by the students have not been resolved. A bandh has been called for educational institutions across the district to protest against the government’s neglect on the education sector in the state.”

SFI district secretary Veeraswamy, AP JAC state president Jagadish, PDSU state vice president L Rajasekhar, and other also participated in the protest.
