RAMANATHAPURAM
One person died and three others were injured near Thiru Uthirakosamangai on Thursday after a wall of a house collapsed over a makeshift tent where the victims were staying.
Police said Karthigai Selvan, 45, along with his wife and two children, due to the deteriorated condition of his house, had moved to a makeshift tent which he had built on the land he owned at Vellamarichikatti village.
In the early hours of Thursday, a wall of the nearby house said to be owned by Muruganandam, collapsed over the tent where the family was sleeping.
Though residents living nearby alerted on hearing the thundering sound of the collapse immediately rescued the family members, Karthigai Selvan died on the way to hospital.
His wife K. Jaya Malini, 40, son and daughter aged 14 and 8, respectively, who were injured, were admitted to Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Uthirakosamangai police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
