Mayor M. Anbazhagan on Thursday inspected the ongoing construction of the new bus terminus at Srirangam.
The terminus is being established on 1.08 acres on Gandhi Road, near the Rajagopuram of the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, at a cost of ₹11.10 crore under the Capital Grant Fund. The project, aimed at meeting a long-pending request of residents, began in January 2024.
The terminus building covers a total area of 34,218 sq. ft., including 18,535 sq. ft. on the ground floor and 14,498 sq. ft. on the first floor. The ground floor will accommodate parking for eight buses, passenger waiting area, and space for 22 commercial shops. The first floor will house a multi-purpose auditorium with a seating capacity of 260 and a food court. Separate sanitation facilities for men and women are being provided.
