In a stern rebuke to the local revenue machinery, the Upalokayukta has castigated the tahsildar and other officials for their failure to act against blatant encroachments along the Cauvery in Srirangapatna.
The order noted that the authorities not only withheld information on encroachments but also allowed illegal resorts and commercial establishments to flourish within prohibited zones.
āāNo information regarding the encroachment of the public property, river, or buffer zone is disclosed by the Tahasildar and the authorities, to protect the natural course of the Cauvery river,ā stated the Upalokayukta order.
It said authorities cannot discriminate and any action taken should be uniform irrespective of the persons who have encroached the government land.
In a sharp rebuke to the authorities, the order noted thatĀ illegal resorts and other commercial establishments are enjoying electricity, water connections, and other amenities for which no construction or trade licenses and NOCs have been issued by the competent authorities as per the version of the respondents which is also a surprise and shocking.
Thereby, the authorities are not exhibiting the utmost honesty, integrity, sincerity, and faithfulness to their job as government servants, according to the Upalokayukta order.
