An alert travelling ticket examiner of the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., (KRCL) rescued a runaway minor boy who was found travelling alone on Mumbai CSMT-Mangaluru Junction Superfast Express on Thursday.

Raghavendra Shetty, Head TTE from Mangaluru, found the 13-year-old boy travelling alone in Coach S3. The boy could not provide his travel details to the TTE, who then found his school identity card in the school bag. On contacting the school over phone, the TTE was informed that the boy had run away from a residential school.

The boy lived with his mother, who worked as a domestic help. Mr. Shetty informed the boy’s mother too and assured his safety. The boy was handed over to the Railway Protection Force personnel at Udupi, who placed him in the child care centre, for safety till the boy joins his mother.

In recognition of Mr. Shetty’s alert action, KRCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanotsh Kumar Jha announced immediate cash reward of ₹5,000, said a release.
