Police bust two red sanders smuggling rackets

The R.T. Nagar police arrested Rajashekar, 29, and Varaprasad Reddy, 24, a MBA and BTech graduates respectively from Andhra Pradesh, and recovered 754 kg of red sanders worth ₹75.4 lakh.

According to the police, the duo were unemployed and reportedly confessed to have stolen the logs stored by an unknown individual near Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh and transported them to Bengaluru in an attempt to sell them.

They were caught before they could get to their clients. The duo were produced before the court and taken into five days custody for further investigation, K.S. Tanveer, Assistant Commissioner of Police, heading the investigation, said.

In a similar case, a team from the Hulimavu police intercepted a car on November 7 and arrested Ahmed Pasha, 29, a resident of Thanisandra. The vehicle contained illegally stocked red sanders.

During interrogation, Pasha reportedly confessed that he and his associates sourced the logs at low prices from a supplier in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, intending to sell them at higher rates in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Based on the information he provided, the police recovered 316 kg of red sanders and a car from Tamil Nadu, 496 kg of red sanders and another car from Kulumepalya, Bengaluru.

The total seizure in this case stood at 812 kg. The police have also detained a juvenile involved in the racket, and efforts were on to track down one more person who is on the run.
