Members of Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association staged a road blockade in Thoothukudi pressing for various demands, including reinstatement of old pension scheme.
The protestors urged the government to scrap the contributory pension scheme and reinstate the old pension scheme for government employees. They also demanded that lakhs of vacant posts in government departments be filled immediately along with various other demands.
Following the statewide call for protest, in Thoothukudi, members of TNGEA took out a rally from the association office on Thoothukudi-Palayamkottai road, raising slogans and pressing their demands. Following that, they staged a road blockade near Ambedkar statue.
The protest was led by Mahendraprabhu, district president, TNGEA. Michael Lillypushpam, state secretary, TNGEA explained the demands at the protest.
Around 200 members from various other associations and departments participated in the protest.
