The Congress deliberately concealed the complaints received against Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan has said.

Speaking at the ‘Vote Vibe-2025’ election dialogue hosted by the Thrissur Press Club on Thursday, he said several Congress leaders themselves had admitted that as many as nine complaints were filed against him.

“No Opposition front in history has been pushed into such a corner. A criminal mafia is running the Congress,” Mr. Govindan alleged.

He cited reports that even Shafi Parambil, MP, had been informed of the distressing episodes but no action came forth. “They believe that if the survivor is mentally broken, she won’t file a complaint. That’s why cyberattacks are being orchestrated,” he said.

Mr. Govindan alleged that Congress leaders such as Rajmohan Unnithan and Ramesh Chennithala were being targeted by the party’s cyber groups. “Even Mr. Chennithala is being silenced by these criminal gangs,” he claimed.

On the allegations against M. Mukesh, MLA, Mr. Govindan said organisational action was not possible because he was not a party member. “Getting the party symbol during elections does not mean one has party membership,” he said. When asked about a woman leader of the party describing the complaint against Mr. Mukesh as “less severe,” he responded: “If she said it, ask her. The party will speak about party matters.”

Responding to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remark that John Brittas, MP, acted as a bridge between the Union and State governments on the PM-SHRI scheme, Mr. Govindan asked: “what’s wrong in building a bridge with the Centre? We have built some, and we will build more.” He asserted that in the federal system Centre-State cooperation was essential but said: “the Left will never allow the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh agenda to be smuggled in. The party has absolute clarity on that.”

On the Sabarimala gold theft investigation, Mr. Govindan said the probe was progressing well. “There is no complaint regarding the investigation. After the probe is completed, appropriate action will be taken. We will not protect anybody,” he said, responding to questions on the delay in acting against former Travancore Devaswom Board president and CPI(M) leader A. Padmakumar who has been arrested in connection with the case.

Commenting on BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s announcement that he would contest from Nemom in the next Assembly election, Mr. Govindan said: “if he contests in Nemom, he will be defeated very badly.” He added that the upcoming local body elections were “a prelude to the Assembly polls” and would reaffirm that “the Left is heading for a third consecutive term in Kerala.”
