Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inspected the newly installed mist sprayers at ITO and said the government is preparing to instal 305 such units across nine major pollution hotspots in the Capital.

“Mist technology is being seen as an effective solution against pollution. Trials in some New Delhi Municipal Council areas have shown positive results,” Ms. Gupta said, asserting that an extensive plan is being drawn up to cover all major roads with mist sprayers.

‘War against pollution’

In a post on X, the CM said the mist sprayers at ITO would help control dust particles in a high-intensity traffic zone. “From infrastructure to monitoring mechanisms and strict enforcement to technological expansion, we are working on mission mode. The war against pollution in Delhi continues,” she said.

Delhi’s average air quality index at 4 p.m. on Thursday improved to 304, compared with the 342 recorded the previous day.

Yet, it remains in the ‘very poor’ category. Air quality has largely remained in the ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ range since Deepavali.

Meanwhile, over 80 Padma awardee doctors have issued a joint national advisory stating that  PM2.5 levels in north India often rise 20 to 40 times above the World Health Organization limits, leaving nearly 70% of the population breathing unsafe air.
