The Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel on Wednesday presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to renowned violin vidwan and composer T.K. Padmanabhan for his contribution to Carnatic music.
He received the award during the 21st edition of the Sterling-Rotary Parallel Music Festival at the Kasturi Srinivasan Hall of The Music Academy. The ceremony coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Awards were presented to veena vidwan and vocalist S. Srinivasan (Distinguished Musician Award) and morsing and mridangam vidwan N.V. Thirumurugan (Promising Musician).
Promising Musician Award, announced in 2020 and 2021, were presented to vocalists Vidushi Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and vidwan K.T. Uday Kiran respectively.
President of The Music Academy N. Murali, who was the chief guest at the event, lauded the sustained commitment of the Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel in nurturing what began as a Parallel Music Festival to “The Music Festival” — a mainstream celebration of inclusivity and artistic excellence.
He extended his best wishes to The Music Academy’s Sangeetha Kalanidhi-designate R.K. Shriramkumar.
Chairperson of the festival R. Sridhar said though the festival began in 2005, the awards were presented only from 2010. Over the years, around 50 musicians were honoured.
Senior vice-president, Branding, Sterling Holiday Resorts, M. Harinath said they were delighted to be the sponsors for this event.
Rotary District 3234 governor A.K.S. Vinod Saraogi and district first lady Usha Saraogi, club president Y. Kavitha and club secretary Ramesh Ananth were present. Club members, musicians, donors and well-wishers were honoured at the event.
