A total of 78 faculty members from the University College of Engineering, BIT Campus, in Tiruchi, were among over 200 staff who participated in a black badge protest called by Tamil Nadu Anna University Teachers’ Association (TNAUTA) across all constituent colleges on Friday.
Besides Tiruchi, the protest, to highlight unresolved staff grievances, was held in the AU constituent colleges located in Kancheepuram, Arni, Coimbatore, Tindivanam, Villupuram, Panruti, Thirukkuvalai, Pattukottai, Dindigul, and Madurai.
In an official release, TNAUTA president R. Prabakaran, said: “For a long time, the Administrator of Anna University, Chennai, has repeatedly refused the reasonable claims and rightful benefits of constituent college faculty members. There is no uniformity, fairness, or transparency in the decisions of the University administration. Faculty grievances remain unaddressed, and several longstanding issues continue to remain unresolved.”
Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions pending since 2009, equal benefits to be extended to constituent college faculty members on a par with the Chennai campus, ensuring all retirement benefits are settled within one month and the grant of Festival Advance as per Tamil Nadu Government norms, were among the demands of the association.
TNAUTA highlighted the need to complete the staff absorption process, allow rotation of deans and department heads at regular intervals and publishing of updated Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) statements on the university website along with interest details as some of the other grievances.
The association proposed the appointment of one Syndicate nominee from TNAUTA to ensure fair representation of constituent colleges.
