The mass cancellation of Indigo Flights led to a marriage reception being held virtually through a video call in Hubballi on December 3, 2025, as the newly-wedded couple who were to fly from Bhubaneswar to Hubballi could not make it to the venue before the scheduled time and day.

The marriage of Medha Ksheersagar of Hubballi and Sangam Das of Bhubaneshwar, both software professionals based in Bengaluru, had taken place in Bhubaneswar on November 23 and their marriage reception was scheduled to take place on December 3 at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi.  The bride and groom had planned to fly from Bhubaneswar to Hubballi via Bengaluru.

However, they found that their IndiGo Flight on December 2 from Bhubaneswar was first delayed, and subsequently cancelled. Their search for alternative flights from other airports turned futile as they too were cancelled. Being over 1,400 kilometres away from Hubballi, the couple could not find other modes of transport to reach the reception venue on time. Apart from them, several other family members and relatives also could not make it to the reception.

As a last resort, the bride’s parents made arrangements for a virtual marriage reception. The newly-weds joined their family in Hubballi through video conference. Around 650 members savoured the reception feast after blessing the couple virtually.

Speaking to press persons, father of the bride Anilkumar Ksheersagar, who runs a pharmacy store in Hubballi, said that they were disappointed on learning about the flight cancellation and as efforts to board flights from other airports failed, they were forced to hold it online. The road journey from Bhubaneswar to Hubballi would have taken 21 hours to 28 hours, depending on the route and stops

“As an alternative measure, they had planned to board a flight from Visakhapatnam, but that flight too was cancelled and on the day of the reception at 4 a.m., we took a decision to hold it virtually. We had arranged various delicacies for 700 guests and so we did not reveal the news until 1 p.m.. Subsequently, we announced that they could not make it because of the flight cancellation. We apologised to the guests and requested them to bless the couple through virtual mode,” Mr. Anilkumar recalled.

Although a bit disappointed, the guests were happy that they could see the couple on the screen and bless them, he said.
