State-owned miner National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Kanpur to strengthen cyber security and advance digital technologies.
The MoU is a step to bolster industry-academia collaboration and facilitate new initiatives in the areas of cyber security and promote the adoption of modern digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), across NMDC’s operations.
Satyendra Rai, Executive Director (Digital Transformation), on behalf of NMDC and Ashoke De, Dean-R&D, IIT Kanpur in the presence of Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, senior officials from NMDC and representatives from IIT Kanpur signed the MoU.
NMDC said it will work with the premier institution across key areas such as cyber security risk assessments; policy, governance and compliance support; AI and ML integration and advancement; security operations and incident response; capacity building and knowledge sharing; and joint research and innovation.
Additionally, training programmes, research activities, pilot projects and co-development of proof-of-concept solutions will be undertaken.
“The collaboration will help strengthen our digital defences, improve operational intelligence and build a secure and future-ready technological foundation for NMDC,” CMD Amitava Mukherjee said in a release.
