Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs), under the aegis of VRA Sangham, staged a protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near the GVMC building on Friday, seeking a solution to their demands. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad.
Addressing the protesters, Sangham honorary president P. Venkata Rao (CITU) demanded that the alliance government implement pay scales and increase the salaries of 19,000 VRAs in the State.
Telangana is implementing pay scales for VRAs, but unfortunately, the same was not being implemented in Andhra Pradesh, he said and demanded that eligible VRAs be promoted as Village Revenue Officers (VROs) in Visakhapatnam district.
The vacant posts of attender and night watchman should be filled. The seniority list of VRAs, eligible for promotion, should also be declared, he said.
Mr. Venkata Rao deplored the deployment of VRAs to far-flung places, without payment of TA and DA, in the name of ‘resurvey’ work. “The agitation will be intensified if the problems of the VRAs are not settled,” he said.
VRA Sangham district president Alamanda Satyam, D. Muthyalu from Anandapurm mandal, P. Yella Rao from Pendurthi mandal, and representatives from Visakhapatnam Urban, Gajuwaka and Peda Gantyada mandals participated in the protest.
