Over 1.27 lakh students in Coimbatore benefit from ‘Pudhumai Penn’ and ‘Tamil Pudhalvan’ schemes

More than 1.27 lakh students in Coimbatore district have availed of support under the Tamil Nadu government’s Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan schemes.

Accoding to a release from the district administration, a total of 70,648 girls have benefited under Pudhumai Penn, while 56,430 boys have received support under Tamil Pudhalvan. Under both schemes, students receive monthly assistance of ₹1,000 for the full duration of their course.

Launched in September 2022, the Pudhumai Penn scheme provides students who completed Classes VI to XII in State government schools and joined higher education, with ₹1,000 a month directly into their bank accounts until course completion. The scheme covers certificate, diploma, undergraduate, and vocational programmes.

The Tamil Pudhalvan scheme, launched in August 2024, provides boys with the same support as Pudhumai Penn. Both schemes were expanded last year to include students from Tamil medium government-aided schools.
