A police team, which was pursuing a history-sheeter hiding in a hillock, got stranded even as utter darkness and constant drizzle enveloped the hillock on Friday evening.
The police said history-sheeter Balamurugan, 30, of Kadayam, who was facing more than 90 cases in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, managed to escape from the police when he was being taken to Thrissur prison a few days ago.
As the police received information that Balamurguan was hiding in a hillock near Ramanadhi dam in Kadayam, a five-member police special team started searching for him.
On seeing the approaching police team, Balamurugan moved towards a cliff and the police, carrying searchlights, followed him even as strong drizzle started. When the police personnel could not follow him further, they tried to retreat, but they lost the right path.
After getting stranded in the hillock, the police team contacted Fire and Rescue Services personnel, who rescued three of the five police personnel in the small hours of Friday, and the other two were brought down at 6 a.m.
Meanwhile, more police personnel were deployed around the hillock, and they are searching for Balamurugan with the help of a drone and the public.
