Taking a pledge to emerge victorious in the ensuing 2026 Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, a large number of cadre and functionaries of the AIADMK took out silent processions and rallies and paid rich tributes to their late leader Jayalalithaa on her death anniversary on Friday.
Former Ministers Sellur K. Raju, R.B. Udayakumar and senior leader and MLA V.V. Rajan Chellappa and others led the rallies in different parts of the city and in suburban locations.
Speaking to media persons, Mr. Raju said that the election to Tamil Nadu next year would be a turning point for the people of the State.
“The AIADMK will restore its lost sheen and bring in prosperity, peace and growth as envisioned by the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.”
The people were fed up and frustrated in multiple ways and a change for development under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami was a foregone conclusion. The DMK, which had come to power in 2021 by giving false promises, had done nothing to the people. All these failures would be exposed and a new regime would be in place by May 2026 for sure, he said amidst thunderous applause from the gathering.
Mr. Rajan Chellappa and Mr. Udayakumar blamed the DMK government squarely for the chaos caused in lighting Deepam in the ‘deepathoon’ at the famous Subramanian Swamy Temple in Thiruparankundram.
Despite the High Court’s directive, the government had the audacity to ignore the order and go for an appeal only showed their arrogance. The political fate of the DMK had been sealed as the party had rubbed on the wrong side of the Hindus, they charged.
The statues of Jayalalithaa and MGR near KK Nagar arch in Madurai were garlanded. The cadre took a pledge to win all the 10 Assembly constituencies in Madurai.
