Students fall sick after eating food at a hostel in Salem

As many as 80 hostel students fell sick after eating food in a hostel in Salem district on Friday.

More than 100 students are staying at the hostel of a private medical college functioning at Ariyanoor in the district. On Thursday afternoon, the students ate food provided in the hostel and started falling sick from evening. A total of 80 students are admitted to the same medical college hospital.

Following the incident, food safety officials inspected the hostel kitchen on Friday and found it was not maintained in a hygienic manner. The officials instructed closure of the kitchen till further orders.

Food safety officials said that food poisoning is suspected and an investigation is going on to identify the source of the food poisoning. All students are fine, officials added.
