Even as the city enjoyed a respite from cool weather on Friday, it is likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.
The rest of the State, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, may also receive rain.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said: “A trough runs from southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean to southeast Arabian Sea across Comorin area at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, has become less marked.”
Officials of the RMC said this might trigger light to moderate rainfall in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. “In the southern districts, we expect some rainfall activity. But we cannot rule out light to moderate rainfall for the rest of the State.”
Many parts of north coastal Tamil Nadu and some other parts of the State, Puducherry, and Karaikal received rain on Friday. Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district recorded the highest rainfall (9 cm). This was followed by Okkiyam Thoraipakkam in Chennai, which recorded 7 cm of rain over 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Friday. Sholinganallur, Uthandi, and Pallikaranai received 5 cm each during this period.
