The 63rd Home Guards Raising Day was observed with ceremonial honours at the Armed Reserve Grounds, here on Saturday. Sri Sathya Sai district Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar received a guard of honour from the home guards before inspecting the parade contingents.
In his speech, the SP praised the contribution of the home guards in maintaining law and order, controlling traffic and handling both complex responsibilities during bandobast duties and emergencies. Mr. Satish Kumar mentioned that the home guards batch started in 1946 in the State of Bombay and was subsequently reorganised under the Civil Guards system, which quickly became an essential support force for the police.
The SP mentioned that currently there were 305 home guards serving in the district and lauded their contributions in the divisions. He highlighted the significance of discipline, honesty and dedication, encouraging the personnel to maintain trust and assuring them that the department was focused on improving welfare benefits. He advised them to remain physically fit and to communicate any job-related concerns with him.
Sub-divisional police officers from Puttaparthi, Dharmavaram, Penukonda and Hindupur were present, along with circle-wise officials.
