Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the State government suffered a loss after the Union government reduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates in the middle of the financial year.

Speaking to the press during his visit to Hassan on December 6, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi implemented GST in 2017. The Centre reduced the tax, causing loss to many States. The gross GST collection from September to November 2025 slowed down. “We are likely to lose around ₹12,000 crore because of GST. Why hasn’t Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy spoken about the loss Karnataka State has been facing? Similarly, the Union Finance Minister had assured ₹5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra project, which has not been released so far. Mr. Kumaraswamy has not raised the issue,” he stated.

Further, he noted that the Union government had not given its approval for the Mekedatu project. “The Cauvery Water Management Authority is under the Union government. So far, the State has not received approval for the project from the authority,” he pointed out.

Responding to Mr. Kumaraswamy’s question about what the Chief Minister has done for the Ahinda communities, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that he had played a major role in organising the minorities and backward classes. “We have given guarantee schemes and many welfare schemes for the socially and economically backward groups. Mr. Kumaraswamy is from an agricultural family. What has he done for the farming community?” the Chief Minister asked.

He said that his government was an open book and that if the Opposition parties move the no-confidence motion in the Assembly, his government is prepared to face it.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Social Welfare Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkhiholi, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, and others.
