Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said on Saturday that a dedicated Home Guard Co-operative Society will soon be set up under the city police to support the welfare of Home Guards, who he noted are performing duties on par with regular personnel.
Commissioner Sajjanar made the announcement during the Home Guards Raising Day celebrations held at the CAR Headquarters in Petlaburj. He inspected the parade, received the guard of honour and addressed Home Guards, senior officers and staff. He said that nearly 5,000 Home Guards are currently working in the city and added that 2,000 have already enrolled in the proposed society, encouraging the remaining personnel to join.
He told the gathering that the government is examining the issue of allotting double bedroom houses to eligible Home Guards. He directed all personnel to ensure their driving licences are renewed, stating that failing to do so could complicate insurance matters in the event of an accident.
He also warned that strict legal action would follow in cases of negligence, corruption or any illegal activity, urging Home Guards to maintain discipline. Certificates were later given to personnel who excelled in the parade and on duty, and ex gratia cheques were provided to the families of 18 Home Guards who died while on duty or due to other causes.
DCP CAR Headquarters Rakshita Krishnamurthy, Home Guards Commandant N.V. Kishan Rao and other senior officers were present.
