Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is likely to be get permission to hold a meeting for a restricted crowd of 5,000 people at the Uppalam ground in Puducherry on December 9.

According to sources in the government, the police are in the process of preparing a set of guidelines for the TVK to adhere to while organising the meeting scheduled on Tuesday. “We cannot give a blanket permission for holding a public meeting as sought by that party. We might give permission to hold a party cadre meeting. The entry to the ground will be restricted to the cadre who have received passes. We are working out the modalities,” said a source.

There will be designated places for vehicles carrying the cadre for the event to be parked. The party should provide medical, drinking water and toilet facilities at the venue. The event will be permitted for a restricted time of maximum of two hours, the source said.

After permission was denied for a roadshow by Mr. Vijay in Puducherry on December 5, the TVK leadership had approached the police again seeking a nod to conduct a public meeting at the Uppalam ground.

TVK general secretary N. Anand alias ‘Bussy’ Anand had met Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Home Minister A. Namassivayam and senior police officers in the last two days seeking permission for the party event in the Union Territory. On Saturday, the Home Minister held talks with the Chief Minister and police officers to decide on the application submitted by the TVK for the public meeting.
