The verdict delivered in the Thirupparankundram case was unacceptable and the judge had attempted to alter the course of justice on religious grounds, alleged CPI State Secretary M. Veerapandian on Saturday (December 6, 2025), calling it an “attack on the law”.
He told the media that the judgment had created unnecessary tension. The Chief Minister had acted promptly to ensure that peace and harmony were not disturbed. The unity displayed by the people of Madurai continued to stand as an example for the State, reflecting Tamil Nadu’s progressive and inclusive character.
Mr. Veerapandian said the State had never witnessed such incidents in the past and the BJP and RSS were attempting to provoke the issue. He also criticised the use of CRPF in the State and said the 100-year-old convention of restraint had been ignored, warranting action against the judge concerned.
He urged the Union government to address issues affecting Tamil Nadu fishermen. The Katchatheevu matter must be raised in Parliament to find a practical solution to the current problems. The CPI, CPI-M and VCK would stage a joint protest on December 8 against the four labour codes. “Just as Kerala has refused to implement the new laws, the State too should withhold adoption of the codes,” he said.
Mr. Veerapandian said the CPI stood firmly with TASMAC staff and all sections of workers. The DMK-led alliance would further strengthen, and the CPI would seek more seats in the upcoming elections. As a democratic alliance, the Chief Minister would uphold democratic values, he said.
