Police presence stepped up in Coimbatore city, suburbs for Babri Masjid demolition anniversary

Police personnel were deployed in large numbers at bus stands, railway junction and places of religious importance in Coimbatore city and suburbs on Saturday, in view of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary.

Surprise vehicle checks were also conducted at Gandhipuram, Townhall, and other crowded areas in the city. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads and sniffer dogs were also deployed for the surprise checks.

In Tiruppur district, members of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam took part in a protest rally in large numbers to condemn the Babri Masjid demolition.

The protest along Kangayam Road was led by the district unit president of the organisation Nazir.

The protesters also raised slogans against Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, demanded withdrawal of Wakf Amendment Act 2025, and called for full-fledged enforcement of The Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991.

The protesters had a face-off with the police when the chairs they had brought to the demonstration venue was taken away by the law-enforcers.
