The Tolichowki police on Friday and Saturday arrested three suspects in two separate theft cases involving household staff, recovering gold, silver and cash from the accused.
In the first case, police said a woman returned to her home in NSF Colony on November 24 after visiting a relative and found her almirah opened the next morning. Gold ornaments, silver items and ₹5,000 in cash were missing. Investigators received information on December 5 about two suspects near a jewellery shop in Tolichowki. Officers detained them and recovered the stolen property, including gold weighing four and a half tulas and silver ornaments.
The accused were identified as Ruheena Begum, 27, a domestic helper from Old Malakpet, and Mohd Razak, 35, an auto driver from Malakpet. Police said both admitted to stealing the jewellery for quick money.
In the second case, registered on December 4, a resident of Satva Magnus, Tolichowki complained that gold ornaments kept in a bedroom cupboard were missing. Police traced the theft to a housemaid working in the flat. On December 6, officers detained the woman near a jewellery shop in the local area and recovered the ornaments weighing about 45 gm. She was identified as Madhuri Anuradha, 39, from MG Nagar.
The arrests were made during routine checks based on local alerts, and the stolen property was recovered intact.
