The Municipalities have started enforcing the Supreme Court order to prevent accidents caused by stray cattle on State and National Highways in Puducherry.
Commissioner of Pondicherry Municipality M. Kandasamy said the sanitary workers were currently engaged in collecting data on dairy farmers under its limits. The workers have been asked to enumerate the cattle heads reared by farmers in the town, he said.
The Oulgaret Municipality recently held a meeting with officials of the departments of Public Works, Police, Animal Husbandry, Transport and National Highways Authority to evolve a programme for the management of stray cattle under its limits.
Oulgaret Commissioner A. Sureshraj, in a release, said a joint team of officials would patrol areas under the Municipalityâs jurisdiction and identify locations along the highways where stray cattle population was the highest.Â
âWe have warned cattle owners not to allow the animals to roam on the highways. If they violate the instructions in the advisory, we have decided to impound the stray cattle found on the highways and keep them in goshalas and cattle pounds. The captured animals will be auctioned later,â he said.
He urged the residents to inform the Municipality of any movement of stray cattle and send in the details to the Municipalityâs control room WhatsApp number 7598171674. For complaints regarding movement of cattle on National Highways, public can contact 1033, the release said.
