GCC workers continue protest – The Hindu

Sanitation workers in the Royapuram and Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar Zones on Saturday continued their protest against the privatisation of solid waste management near Nehru Stadium at Periamet.

They also observed the memorial day of B.R. Ambedkar, and garlanded his statue.

The protestors submitted a petition to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), urging the reinstatement of work under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM), before beginning their demonstration.

As the protest unfolded, police engaged in discussions with the workers, requesting them to end their protest. However, as of 7.45 p.m. on Saturday, the workers continued their demonstration.
