Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh has asked every individual to come forward to build a healthy society.
Mr Jagadeesh flagged off and took part in the cycle rally organised in the city on Sunday (December 07) as part of the ‘Drugs vaddu bro – Cycle tokku bro’ (Say no to drugs – ride a bicycle) initiative to create awareness against the ill-effects of drug consumption and inculcate healthy habits among the youngsters. The rally started from the district police office and ended at the Collector’s office passing through Ambedkar Circle, Sapthagiri Circle, Subash Road, Clock Tower, NTR Circle, Srikantham Circle, Patavuru, Tadipatri Bus Stand, Gandhi Bazaar and Sangamesh Circle.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jagadeesh said drug consumption is a major problem that is causing severe harm to the future of youngsters. He said initiatives like ‘Drugs vaddu bro – Cycle tokku bro’ will not only create awareness but also help youth embrace healthy habits. Mr. Jagadeesh said getting addicted to drugs will shatter one’s lives and urged youngsters not to start taking drugs or ganja.
The SP said every mother should take responsibility of building a drug-free society and it is also the responsibility of the parents to keep an eye on the behaviour and habits of their children. He said cycling keeps body fit and a healthy body keeps the mind peace which desists one from drugs and other vices.
A large number of students, sports persons, police personnel, NGOs including Indian Red Cross Society, Discover Anantapur, Lalithamma Helping Hands, Appeles NGO, and others have took part in the rally.
