The Catholic Association of Mysore (CAM) ushered in the spirit of Christmas by organising the 21st Diocesan Carol Singing Competition at St. Philomena’s College Indoor Stadium, Bannimantap, on December 7. The event opened with a holy mass led by the Bishop of Mysore, Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao S.J.

The day-long competition was formally inaugurated by the Bishop, who extended his Christmas greetings to all participants.

More than 85 teams took part in five categories — schools (Classes 8 to 12), colleges, parishes, professionals, and institutional staff — and presented carols in English, Kannada, and other regional languages. Each group, comprising eight to 45 members, was given six minutes to perform. Children further added to the festive ambience with enactments depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.

Among those present were Rev. Fr. Lourdu Prasad, Rector of St. Philomena’s College, Rev. Fr. Thomas Baros, director of St. Joseph Hospital, Mysuru, Rev. Fr. Naveen, secretary to the Bishop, Joseph Mathew, president, Carmel Catholic Association, Mathew B. Suresh, president, CAM, and Premanand D’Mello, secretary, CAM.

Organisers described the event as more than a competition — a gathering of children in a celebration of unity, and the true message of Christmas.
