Two top cadre of the CPI Maoist party surrendered before the Alluri Sitharama Raju district police at Paderu on Sunday. The surrendered Maoists were identified as Dirido Vijjal alias Jailal and his wife Madvi Gangi alias Vimala alias Bheeme, both from Sukma district in Chhattisgarh.
Police said Dirido Vijjal joined Balala Sangham in 1994 and later worked in several key positions, including South Bastar Division team member, dalam member, area committee member, LOS commander in the National Park area, section commander in the Kunta region, divisional committee member, and company commander in the Dharba Division. He was involved in seven ambushes, seven camp attacks and raids, and two exchanges of fire.
Madvi Gangi worked in the party for more than 20 years. Joining in 2006, she rose to the posts of party member, area committee member, divisional committee member, and Malenger area committee secretary. She was involved in seven exchanges of fire and several other offences in Chhattisgarh.
Explaining the reasons for their surrender, ASR district Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar said increased police operations, establishment of new police camps in Maoist-affected areas, restricted movement, fear for life, declining public support, loss of faith in Maoist ideology, and disillusionment with party principles prompted them to give up arms. Continuous exchanges of fire between Maoist groups and security forces in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh had caused the loss of several senior cadres and weakened the outfit’s operational strength, he added.
Awareness of police-led employment and development initiatives, along with attractive government rehabilitation policies, also influenced their decision. The SP said the surrendered Maoists should make full use of welfare schemes, join the mainstream, and work for the betterment of their families. He assured prompt extension of all eligible benefits.
