Man hacked to death over old rivalry

A 65-year-old man was hacked to death at Kamalapur town in Kalaburagi district late on Saturday, reportedly over an old rivalry.

The victim has been identified as Muhammad Haneef, a resident of Kamalapur town. According to police sources, Rizwan, 25, from the same village, was suspected to have committed the murder.

The police said Haneef and Rizwan were involved in a quarrel earlier, and the accused was believed to have attacked Haneef with lethal weapons. The incident took place near the KEB office on Jevangi Road in Kamalapur.

Superintendent of Police Addur Srinivasalu and police officials visited the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection.

The Kamalapur police have registered a case. Investigation is under way.
