A total of 91 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) – 46 MoUs in Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department and 45 MoUs in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department were signed at the TN Rising Investors’ Conclave here on Sunday in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa, who steered the event, enabled the State to attract investments worth ₹36,660 crore, creating 56,766 jobs.

Some of the key MoUs signed were with Pei Hai group – the Taiwanese group manufacturing non-leather footwear in Madurai – to create 15,000 jobs.

Secondly, the Tamil Nadu government came into an understanding with Hyundai company to establish a shipbuilding project.

Hannae Choi, Vice President and Head of the Corporate Planning Division at HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), said, “My team and I visited Thoothukudi. With its strategic location, favourable climate, and skilled people, I could clearly imagine a mega shipyard to be built.”

He said the vision to build a mega-scale shipyard would be made possible together with the Government of India, the Government of Tamil Nadu, and HD Hyundai.

“We strongly believe India can achieve its Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, and we believe Tamil Nadu can be the place where that vision becomes reality,” Mr Choi noted.

As they were operating shipyards in Vietnam, Philippines, and Saudi Arabia, their entry into India, a nation full of talent, would be a great deal, he added.

Further, he sought the continued support and guidance of Mr. Stalin, authorities and other stakeholders in establishing the ship building unit.

Mr. Rajaa commended the project as a suitable investment that would not only encourage other companies but was also capable of attracting ancillary component manufacturing unit.

Saying that it was the first time an electronic component manufacturing unit had been set up in a remote district like Theni, Mr. Rajaa said the SFO technologies, a leader in engineering, electronics and information technology solutions, could attract workforce from the local educated youth.

Additionally, he said the Reliance Industries is set to invest ₹11,000 crore in the Bio Energy sector in the southern districts.

He assured that the investments focused exclusively on the southern districts have the potential to uplift the economy of even the remotest districts along with utilising the local educated and skilled workforce.

The ‘Tamil Nadu Toy Manufacturing Policy 2025’ released by Mr. Stalin as part of the event aimed at promoting Tamil Nadu as a leading hub for the production of high-quality and sustainable toys and to enhance the traditional toy making skills of artisans of areas like Vilacheri, Thanjavur and Ambasamudram.

Focused on the livelihood of farmers by introducing agricultural and food processing technologies, the Tamil Nadu Food Processing and Agricultural Export Promotion Corporation (TNAPEX) signed MoUs with nine key national institutions operating under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) operating in Mysuru.
