A sub-inspector attached to the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police died at a private hospital late on Saturday, a day after suffering grievous injuries in a road accident.
The deceased has been identified as R. Palanisamy (56) of Pattanam, who served at Sultanpet police station since 2023.
The police said that a car rear-ended his motorcycle at a traffic signal at Chinthamanipudur on Friday evening. The car sped away after the accident. Palanisamy, who was admitted to a private hospital at Neelambur for treatment, died without responding to treatment. The police are in the efforts to trace the car that caused the accident.
