A juvenile sloth bear that had gotten stuck between two rocks on a cliff near Karikiyoor in Kil Kotagiri was rescued in a joint effort by the Forest Department and the Fire and Rescue Service.

Forest Department officials said that they received information that the bear had gotten stuck between two rocks and was unable to extricate itself. Veterinary assistant surgeons, Forest Department staff and Fire and Rescue Service personnel rushed to the spot and began planning the rescue of the animal.

They sedated the animal and then tied a rope around it, and with a rudimentary pulley mechanism, managed to lift it out from the gap in which it had gotten stuck. The Forest Department said that the animal received first aid and was checked for any long-term injuries prior to being released back into the forest.
