The chief coordinator of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) high-level administrative committee, K.A. Sengottaiyan, along with district functionaries, on Sunday submitted a request letter to Erode district Collector S. Kandasamy and the Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha seeking permission for party president Vijay’s public meeting scheduled for December 16.

Mr. Sengottaiyan told reporters a private site near Vaari Mahaal on Perundurai Road was selected for the event. The plan for a roadshow was dropped and only a public meeting would be held at the identified location.

He added that once approval was received from the district administration and the police, arrangements would begin, and public participation would be regulated in line with government norms.

On questions regarding alliance prospects — including All India Professionals Congress chairman Praveen Chakravarty’s meeting with TVK president Vijay, speculation of the Congress considering exiting the DMK alliance, and the possibility of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam joining with TVK — Mr. Sengottaiyan said the party leader had held discussions with the Congress, but he could not comment on it. He added each party has its own ideology and would decide independently whom and when to join.

When asked if senior leaders from other parties would join TVK, he said, “Wait till December 16.”

Responding to claims that he had set conditions upon joining TVK, Mr. Sengottaiyan said the information was incorrect and no conditions had been imposed. He further said expectations of political change were being expressed across Tamil Nadu and these sentiments would be reflected during Vijay’s visit.
