As part of the larger project to clean the river Yamuna, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is in the process of finalising a consultant for the Sewerage Master Plan (SWP), 2043, to address the pollution in the river, an official told The Hindu.

ā€œThe DJB floated a tender for a consultant for the SWP in September and is in the process of finalising a company. The bids by companies are being analysed and it should be done in a month,ā€ the official said.

The project is estimated to cost around ₹22 crore. The consultant will conduct aerial and on ground surveys, carry out gap analyses, use artificial intelligence and review the existing 2031 master plan, according to the official.

Cleaning Yamuna river was one of the key poll promise of the Bharatiya Janata Party. While presenting the Delhi budget in March, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had said, ā€œOn the result day of Delhi election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the promise of cleaning Yamuna will be the biggest priority of the Delhi government.ā€

In July, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting on cleaning of the river and directed the Delhi government to nearly double its sewage treatment capacity to 1,500 million gallons per day (MGD) by 2028.
