In a humane gesture, Anantapur police on Sunday (December 7, 2025), late at night, facilitated the transportation of a woman’s dead body to her native place in Lepakshi from Anantapur in an ambulance. The woman’s son brought her to Anantapur for treatment and was not having enough money to shift the body.

According to police, the deceased woman, Venkata Lakshmi (47) hails from Lepakshi mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district was suffering with health problems for the past few months. Her two sons work in Bengaluru as daily wage labourers to meet the expenses on her treatment.

On Sunday (December 7, 2025), Venkata Lakshmi’s elder son Venkateswarlu brought her to Anantapur Government General Hospital for treatment. After treatment, the mother-son duo reached the Anantapur Railway Station to board a bus to reach their village. Venkateswarlu consumed alcohol before reaching the railway station and slept.

Police said the ailing woman might had died between 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. but Venkateswarlu noticed his mother dead around 1 a.m. on the next day. With not much money and in a helpless situation, Venkateswarlu called Dial 100 and informed about his inability to shift his mother to their native place.

Anantapur III Town Inspector Rajendranath Yadav and other police personnel rushed to the railway station within minutes and found the woman dead and Venkateswarlu in a hapless situation. With his own money, Mr. Yadav hired an ambulance for ₹6,000 and made arrangements for transporting the body to Lepakshi. The police personnel themselves shifted Venkata Lakshmi’s body into the ambulance.

Anantapur Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh commended the III Town police personnel for their timely response and humane gesture in shifting the woman’s body in a respectful manner.
