The Kalyana Karnataka Horata Samiti has urged the State government to ensure that the Belagavi Legislature Session, which began on Monday, was completely devoted to addressing the long-pending and urgent issues of North Karnataka region.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, honorary president of the samiti Basavaraj Deshmukh and founding president Lakshman Dasti emphasised that matters concerning Kalyana Karnataka and Kittur Karnataka must be discussed in the session without digressing, as the region has suffered decades of administrative and developmental neglect.
Dr. Dasti appealed to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and all legislators to treat the session seriously and take up issues of North Karnataka region including distress faced by farmers and sugarcane growers, delays in major irrigation projects, challenges in the agriculture sector, slow recruitment under Article 371(J), and the poor implementation of schemes.
He also highlighted issues such as the suspension of flights from the Kalaburagi Airport, pending compensation for Karanja project affected farmers, and the slow progress of railway and road works, establishment of AIIMS in the region, delays in teacher and university staff appointments, lack of tourism development and the need to improve healthcare services must also be discussed in the session, he said.
