A retired Army officer was assaulted and robbed at his residence in Karkhana, leading to the arrest of a group of Nepali nationals by the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone, and Karkhana police.

The arrested were identified as Raj Bahadur Shahi, 36, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, 39, Gorkhe Bhadhur Kamee, 40, Amit Bisukarma, 22, and Subhash Tamata, 19.

Police said they confined and assaulted Capt. D. K. Giri (Retd.) at his home in Gunrock Enclave before escaping with gold ornaments weighing around 23 tolas and ₹95,000 in cash. Several others linked to the offence are absconding.

Investigators said the complainant had approached an agency to hire domestic workers, after which the accused planted Raj Bahadur Shahi and Rekha Devi Rawal as a married couple in the household. The group later met in Tolichowki, planned the offence and waited for an opportunity to strike.

“During the night of November 15 and 16, the accused entered the house, tied the victim’s hands and legs, assaulted him, took jewellery, searched the premises and fled with additional valuables,” explained an officer, adding that they later divided the stolen property, switched off their phones and left the city in separate groups.

The arrests led to the recovery of gold ornaments weighing 73.35 grams, silver ornaments weighing 22.90 grams, a Rolex wristwatch, ₹43,050 and five mobile phones, with the total value estimated at about ₹10 lakh.
