Opposing the decision to allot autorickshaws at the newly-established satellite bus stand at Solar in Erode through a draw of lots, members of various trade unions staged a protest on the Erode Collectorate premises on Monday (December 8, 2025).

The protesters arrived at the Collectorate during the weekly grievances redress day meeting wearing black headbands. When representatives from several trade unions sought to submit petitions, the police informed them that only a limited number of persons would be permitted. Objecting to this, the drivers sat on the ground on the premises and launched a protest, raising slogans against the restrictions. After negotiations with the police, the protesters withdrew the demonstration and dispersed peacefully.

In their petition, auto drivers demanded cancellation of the draw-of-lots selection process, allotment of auto stand space based on trade union proportion, relaxation of what they termed excessive regulations, extension of the application deadline by at least 15 days, and issuance of orders to safeguard the livelihood and trade union rights of economically vulnerable workers.
