The Central Union of Trade Unions (CITU) staged a protest in Krishnagiri on Monday (December 8, 2025) demanding permanent jobs for sanitation workers, halt to outsourcing, and off days for contractual workers.
The protests, held as part of the State-wide demonstrations, sought commitment from the local body administrations to stop outsourcing and contractual recruitments for jobs that have permanency to work. They also demanded timely settlement of retirement benefits to workers. Among the other demands were employment on compassionate grounds to a family member of a worker upon his passing during service; housing for sanitation workers, service pension, and wage hike for over-head tank operators in panchayats and cease recruitments on contractual basis. The Trade Union also demanded a 30% allocation in the funds of Union and State government for panchayats.
