Senior Congress leader Charandas Mahant on Friday (December 12, 2025) announced that the party’s legislators will boycott the proceedings of the inaugural day of the upcoming Winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Mahant, who is also the leader of the Opposition in the 90-member House, stated that the boycott was in protest against the government’s move to discuss Vision 2047, the State’s own roadmap for contributing to the Central government’s vision to transform the country into a developed economy by 2047.

“In the Assembly on the 14th [December, inaugural day of the four-day-long session], there will be no question and answer session, no calling attention motion or adjournments. And there would only be discussion on Vision 2047. In keeping that in view, I have made a decision. I am telling my colleagues in front of you that we are completely boycotting the Assembly session on December 14,” he said after a meeting of the Congress legislators.

Terming the Vision Document as a lie which only offered pipe dreams, he said that there was nothing in it that would give any benefit to the poor, farmers, unemployed, youth, farmers who are not getting tokens to sell their produce or the environment and ecology of Chhattisgarh.

When asked about the Congress’ decision to boycott the proceedings, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the party was taking such decisions because it was frustrated after a series of electoral losses in the State.
