Delhi University has announced that it will establish a Centre for Odia Studies under the Faculty of Arts to expand the scope of discussion and study on Odia language, literature, culture, civilisation, and customs.
The decision was taken in an Executive Council meeting on Friday.
The Centre will offer a two-year MA in Odia, and further modalities for a one-year postgraduate programme will be determined later based on need.
“The Centre also aims to offer certificate, diploma, and postgraduate programs and a generic elective in Odia Studies at the undergraduate level through the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022, in order to popularise the rich Odia language, literature, and culture in a relevant perspective,” the university said in a statement.
The Centre will explore the historical evolution of Odia language, literature, art, architecture, dance, traditions, philosophical practices, reform movements, folklore, and oral traditions.
Hall renamed ‘Vande Mataram’
Meanwhile, the administration also announced its decision to rename a renovated convention hall to ‘Vande Mataram Hall’.
During the meeting, the EC approved the budget estimates for the financial year 2026-2027 of ₹1,651.42 crore. The university also proposed using a total of 3.7 acres of vacant land in the Dhaka Complex for a girls’ hostel.
