Tourism Minister R. Rajendran said that a total of 6.32 lakh women in Salem district are benefiting under the Kalaingar Magalir Urimai Thittam (KMUT).
On Friday, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the distribution of debit cards for new women beneficiaries under the second phase of the KMUT scheme in Chennai. Following this, in Salem district, the Minister distributed the debit cards to the new beneficiaries.
Mr. Rajendran told reporters that in Salem district from July 15 to November 15, a total of 432 special camps under Ungaludan Stalin were conducted. Through these camps, a total of 1.53 lakh women applied seeking monthly assistance under the KMUT scheme. These applications were verified and inspections were conducted by the officials and 83,241 applications were accepted. In Salem district, there are 11.11 lakh ration cards and already 5.49 lakh women are benefiting under the KMUT scheme. Now the beneficiaries’ number has increased to 6.32 lakh, the Minister added.
“In Tamil Nadu, 1.14 crore women heads of families received ₹30,838 crore under this scheme. Now from Friday, under the second phase of KMUT, additionally around 17 lakh women are going to benefit, which increases the total beneficiaries to 1.31 crore in the State. At a function held in Salem on September 16 this year, the Chief Minister distributed identity cards for women self-help group (SHG) members. Following this, on Friday, 30,000 women SHG members received the identity cards,” Mr. Rajendran added.
Similarly, at the function held in Namakkal district on Friday, Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister M. Mathiventhan distributed debit cards to 37,308 new beneficiaries under the KMUT scheme.
In the functions, District Collectors R. Brindha Devi (Salem) and Durgamoorthi (Namakkal), MPs T.M. Selvaganapathi, S.R. Sivalingam, and K.R.N. Rajeshkumar, MLA P. Ramalingam, Salem Corporation Mayor A. Ramachandran and officials participated.
