Eight individuals were arrested by the Hyderabad Narcotics police of the Telangana EAGLE Force and Borabanda police while consuming ganja at Indiranagar Phase II in Borabanda.

The accused were identified as Vickey, Mallikarjun, Sai Manikanta, Shiva, Shareef, Abraham, Nagireddy and Vinod, all residents of Hyderabad.

Acting on a tip-off, teams from the EAGLE Force and Borabanda police conducted a joint operation and found the group consuming ganja on the terrace of a house in the locality.

During questioning, police said the group admitted to regularly gathering at the spot over the past few months to consume ganja, which they procured from an unidentified supplier. On the day of the operation, Vickey allegedly brought the substance to the location.

All eight were subjected to on-the-spot testing using drug detection kits, which confirmed the presence of THC, a banned psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused and six seized mobile phones were handed over to Borabanda police for further action.

Police said the individuals were counselled and referred to the Drug Treatment Clinic at the Institute of Mental Health, Erragadda, for de-addiction and rehabilitation. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the supplier.
