The United Democratic Front (UDF) recorded a dream run in Wayanad district in the local body polls.

The front tasted victory in the district panchayat and four block panchayats, besides two of the three municipalities in the district. Of the 23 grama panchayats, 16 favoured the UDF, while six stood with the Left Democratic Front (LDF), and it was a tie in the Pulpally panchayat. The Kalpetta municipality was the only saving grace for the LDF in the district.

The UDF registered a clear victory in the district panchayat. Of the 17 divisions, the front won 15, leaving two to the LDF.

The Sulthan Bathery municipality, which was under LDF governance, favoured the UDF this time. The LDF won only 14 seats as against the UDF’s 19, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) bagged one seat. Two seats were won by Independents.
